Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (ChWSSC) is a commercial Utility Company with its headquarters in Kasama whose service areas include Northern and Muchinga Provinces. It was incorporated in April 2003 under the Water and Sanitation Act No. 28 November of 1997. This was necessitated by the Government’s need to desire to improve water and sanitation services in urban and peri-ubarn areas of Northern and Muchinga provinces.

Water consumption is calculated and consumers are charged accordingly in advance. Consumers spend the amount of water loaded from credit sales offices by loading the credit to water meters via smart cards. The water meter cuts off the water by closing its valve when the credit ends, but when the consumer re-loads the spare credit in smart card to the water meter, the valve will re-open. Spare credits function allow consumers to use water until they re-load the smart card.
Water consumption is calculated and consumers are charged accordingly after use. Consumers pay for the service indicated on the water bill following a series of activities leading to the determination of how much water was used. In this case, meter readers would have carried out the readings exercise to determine current usage of water in cubic meters compared to the initial readings which is in essence the previous reading. Then the difference is computed to determine actual use and cost.
